The Holy Assembly Church Of God In Christ was founded by Elder James Jackson and Mother Margaret Jackson in 1924. Elder and Mother Jackson came to Pasadena, California from St. Louis, Missouri. At that time, there wasn't a Holiness church established in the city. Therefore, they began a church in their home. There were other saints living in the area from St. Louis that were instrumental in the organization of the church. Due to the increase in membership, Elder Jackson sought larger quarters for the church. In 1928 he relocated to Lincoln and Westgate Streets. In 1937 the Lord led Elder Jackson to purchase a church at 1093 Fair Oaks Avenue. God blessed their ministry there. Many souls were saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Elder and Mother Jackson counseled many of the young pastors, ministers and missionaries of Pasadena and Southern California. Mother Jackson was a strict teacher of the Word of God, and served faithfully by her husband's side until her demise in 1961. Elder Jackson went from labor to reward March 5, 1962.
Elder L.F. Catley was appointed as Pastor of the Holy Assembly Church in June of 1962. The Lord blessed the church under the leadership of Elder Catley and his wife, Sister Bertha Catley. The church progressed spiritually, financially and numerically. In 1966 a beautiful and larger edifice with adjoining property was purchaed at 55 East Villa Street. In 1977 the mortgage was burned. Elder Catley remained as Pastor until the Lord called him home January 11, 1979.
On June 1, 1979 Superintendent F.J. Goodman and his captivating wife Sister Ella V. Goodman came to Holy Assembly Church as our dynamic pastor and wife duo. The church has grown tremendously since his appointment. He is a great leader and organizer, fervently praying for the people and their needs with his wife at his side interceding. Many remarkable and commendable accomplishments have taken place since his appointment, including the complete renovation of the main auditorium. We are continuously growing and the Lord is constantly adding new souls.
