Hudson Middle School, the second largest middle school in the state, has more than 1300 students in grades six, seven and eight. In order to address the size of a growing enrollment, the school has been divided into four learning communities, creating a "school within a school" atmosphere. Blue, Red, Green and Purple Communities consist of students and teachers in each grade. Each community is academically balanced; students will remain in the community throughout their middle school years.
The portion of the middle school closest to Oviatt Street was completed and dedicated as Hudson High School on February 15, 1928. In 1953, the school was enlarged by the addition of a rear wing. At that time, grades 4, 5 and 6 were transferred from Hudson Elementary to the old part of the building. The building was enlarged again by bond issues in 1959 and in 1971. In 1992, when the high school population moved to its new building, renovations were made to convert the old high school to the middle school, housing 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. A two-room modular unit was added in the summer of 1996.
