About Us
The Humane Society of Sumner County works to educate the public about the most overwhelming cruelty: breeding and the surplus tragedy. Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them. We are devoted to accomplishing our goals through community outreach and education, discount or free pet sterilization services and placement of adoptable animals in permanent, caring homes as long as our funds will allow.
The Humane Society of Sumner County accepts animals on an appointment only basis. We are only able to accept animals when we have the space to house it until placement. We no longer euthanize healthy adoptable animals to simply make room for more. If you need to bring in an animal to be placed for adoption, please call (822-0061) to make an appointment. We guarantee placement of all adoptable animals. We will assess the animal's adoptability and its chances for placement before you surrender it to the shelter.
