Huntington Elementary School was known as Rural School #8. It consisted of 2 classrooms and "outdoor plumbing". The doors opened in the fall of 1918 by Miss Blanche Loomis, Principal and Miss Mabel Warren.
Rural School #8 became a part of the Painesville City School System in 1922, and became known as the North End School. This name was changed in 1930 to Huntington School in honor of Samuel Huntington, third Governor of Ohio
