History
The first Catholic service in Gilman was held at the railroad house in December of 1857. It was decided at this meeting to raise the funds to build a permanent church. Work began on May 1st, but was destroyed by a tornado on May 13th. Work began again and was completed in 1859. In 1870 the decision was made to build a larger church to accommodate the growing congregation. The present building was completed in 1872 at a cost of $3500.00.
