Innisfree Community Gardens is part of a 550 acre community that grows organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers. the gardens are part of innisfree village, a life and work sharing community with adults with disabilities.
Several acres are devoted to growing vegetable, herbs, fruits and flowers that help to feed the community of residents, or coworkers, and volunteers who reside in the community. The gardens also host a small csa, and sell at the local crozet and charlottesville farmers markets, and specialty food stores and restaurants.
A group of residents and volunteers help with the work that is coordinated and managed by the head gardeners and seasonal interns. Growing food according to organic and biodynamic principles encourages the creative, meaningful work for innisfree village's special population, and creates connections with the greater community of concerned citizens who care about the food they eat, the land on which it grows, and the people who grow it.
Innisfree community gardens provide a weekly share of vegetables and herbs from late may into october. we grow over 30 kinds of vegetables, including several different varieties of each vegetable, especially heirloom tomatoes. depending on the season, the share can weigh from 5- 20 lbs, and is delivered to area drop off sites. work is not required but attendance to seasonal gaterhings and celebrations are encouraged to foster connection between our farm and our subscbribers.
