Jackson Parish is similar to many of Louisiana's rural school districts in several respects: schools with small enrollments, dedicated teachers and conservative educational philosophy. However, we perceive ourselves as being unique and most fortunate. Our diverse economy provides great financial resources. A well-planned curriculum program strives to meet the needs of every student, whether college-bound, planning to attend technical school or entering the work force.

Voters in Jackson Parish have approved 4 cents in sales taxes with 3 cents being dedicated to salaries. We have approximately 40 mills in property tax collected for construction, operation and maintenance of our schools. This will continue to insure our schools are properly maintained. The members of the Jackson Parish School Board have worked cooperatively to support programs and initiatives that help students meet their educational goals.

Our schools are working hard to meet the mandates of No Child Left Behind and the state accountability initiatives. We support our teachers in the push for each teacher to be "highly qualified." We encourage participation of our teachers in the National Board Certification process. Teachers have access to the Teacher Quality Block Grant Funds to continue their education through this tuition exemption program.

Our teachers are highly involved in professional activities and curricular revisions, including the new Content Standards. Projects to improve mathematics and reading instruction are ongoing. Science instruction is a priority. Vocational areas such as Guidance, Business Education, Agriculture, Home Economics, Nursing, Technology Education and Auto Mechanics receive priority funding. Schools are involved in both Tech Prep and Perkins III efforts.
