The Kennett Square Memorial Day Parade is a tradition that goes back decades—starting in 1948—and has endured as a local favorite. The parade is first and foremost a way to remember and honor those who have given their lives in the service of the United States Armed Forces. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate the people, culture, and freedoms they fought for.

The parade, which is the largest in Chester County, is produced by a volunteer committee that includes community members under the leadership of Kennett Collaborative, American Legion Post 491, and VFW Post 5467. Kennett Collaborative, formerly known as Historic Kennett Square, was founded in 1986 as a revitalization taskforce and has supported the parade by managing its finances, providing marketing, and coordinating with the Borough and local businesses.

Perhaps no one has contributed more to the parade’s success than veteran Bill Taylor who chaired the committee from 2005 to 2021. He, along with his family and company, Taylor Oil and Propane, have donated countless time and resources to honor Kennett’s veterans. Taylor grew up in Kennett Square with a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by those serving in World War II when he was a child. He vividly recalls how “the town went crazy” the day the war was over. We imagine that energy as thousands line the streets each year to watch the Memorial Day Parade march through Kennett Square.
