Mission:

The Mission of Community Presbyterian Church is to worship with God’s people, to share Christ’s love and compassion and to serve the community and the family of God. We strive to practice Christianity in our daily lives, the community and the world. Our goal is to be caring, compassionate and supportive, to accept all people, and to share our beliefs. We are all children of God, participating in communion with Him and the world family. Our vision for the future of our church is to glorify God through.

His son Jesus Christ with a spirit-filled church, to nurture our members and the community, and to offer a house of worship that is open to all. We emphasize teaching and training our members and elders so they have the necessary skills to demonstrate by their actions and words Christ’s unconditional love, His compassion for all people, and service to others. We also emphasize the sharing of God’s message of salvation and the effective stewardship of all the resources God has provided.

About Us:

Community Presbyterian Church is a traditional small mountain town church. Following the leadership of George Darley, we were led by several pastors that traveled from outlying communities to serve the congregation. Dr. Harold Parker became our pastor in 1968 and served for over 20 years until his retirement in 1989. He was followed by Jeffrey Light who was our first full-time pastor since the turn of the century. Following him were two full-time pastors Franklin Kaemingk (1994-97) and Norman Fowler (1998-2005). John Allan Guthrie joined our church as full-time pastor on June 18, 2006.

Over the years several additions have been made to the original sanctuary and the Manse, which houses the pastor. The sanctuary was remodeled in 1981 and new stained glass windows that depict Seven Days of Creation were added. A pastor’s office, a fellowship hall, Sunday school, rest rooms, and a full kitchen were also added. A nearby building, the Annex, was purchased for expanding children’s programs.
