About Us:
For more than 50 years, the Civic Auditorium has been Lakewood's crown jewel. Virtually every Lakewood native has a special memory of a concert, play or other civic event in our hometown theater. Since its opening in April 1955, the "Pride of Lakewood" has witnessed every Lakewood High School Commencement, the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, and the musical performances of our sons and daughters.
The inaugural production, "Seeds of Progress," was a part of Lakewood Pride of Progress Month, reflecting the community commitment to civic and cultural progress. The ceramic art facade is by renowned artist/designer Viktor Schreckengost. "Early Settler," has evolved into a composite of Johnny Appleseed and Lakewood Naturalist Dr. Jared Kirtland, whose agricultural and scientific contributions inspired future Lakewoodites to further nurture their community and children through music and the arts.
