Marshall Middle School is one of 17 schools in the Fauquier County Public School Division .Marshall Middle School is located in a rural area on Zulla Road , one quarter of a mile north of Route 55, between the village of Marshall and the town of The Plains .Marshall Middle School serves students in grades six, seven, and eight from the northern most part of the county to the newly rezoned area of Warrenton Lakes

Marshall Junior High School opened in 1974 for students in grades seven, eight and nine.There were 447 students, 25 teachers, one librarian, one guidance counselor, one assistant principal, and a principal.The school was built as an open school or school without walls.Eventually walls were built to separate the classrooms.In 1987 a wing was added to house the technology and agriculture programs.As the student body continued to grow in the late 1980’s and 1990’s, nine trailers were added to accommodate the increased number of students and academic programs.

Marshall Junior High School became Marshall Middle School the 1995-96 school year as Fauquier County Public School transitioned from the junior high to the middle school configuration, grades six, seven, and eight.There were 394 students, 32 teachers, one librarian, one guidance counselor, an assistant principal, and a principal.

A major construction and renovation project was completed in August 2002. Three classrooms in the original building and the agriculture lab in the technology wing were renovated. Twenty new classrooms, a chorus room, an orchestra room, and an auxiliary gym were built.The last interior walls, which were built in the summer of 2002, enclosed the library. Marshall Middle School has a total of 48,775 square feet with a capacity of 658 students.
