The Maugansville Bible Brethren Church first assembled on December 5,
1982. Services were held at Heritage Academy on Walnut Point Road,
Hagerstown, MD and Pastoral responsibilities were shared by Pastors
John C. Hoffman and Merlin E. Watts until November 9, 1983, when Pastor
Hoffman was hired full time.
Land was purchased on April 28, 1985, and on December 13, 1987, a
groundbreaking ceremony was held at this Binkley Avenue site. Work
began and this church is the result of untiring effort, determination
and dedication of Pastor Hoffman, the Trustees, and help from many
members of the congregation. Our first service was on December 18. 1988
- "A Christmas to Remember".
Our hearts were challenged on April 16, 1989 at the Dedication Service
when Dr. George Brunk, preaching from I Kings, Chapter 8 asked, "and
what would this church be like in seventy-five years?"
In Jesus' name, we pressed on. The Fellowship Hall was completed in May
1990; the groundbreaking for the Family Life Center occurred on August
27, 1996; the first service was Love Feast and Communion on Friday,
March 28, 1997; and this facility was dedicated on September 14, 1997.
Once again Dr. Brunk challenged us to stand firm and to keep on
praising and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. As a church body we have
been commissioned by Christ to be a witness to others and our goal
continues to be one of growing in Christ and to reach our "Jerusalem"
for Christ, Acts 1:8. We have broadened our outreach by increasing the
number of Missionary families we support and in January 2001 began an
AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) program for the children of
our community to teach and fill their hearts with the Word of God, II
Timothy 2:15. In 2003, we added a Kidz Praise & Worship time during
our Morning Worship Service.
