Miners Alley Playhouse began in 1989 as The Morrison Theatre Company. Founder Rick Bernstein and his wife, Paige Larson, moved the company to Golden in 2003, where it became Miners Alley Playhouse. In addition to a beautiful 130-seat theater, the downtown Golden space is also the home of Lillie's Saloon - a full bar and lounge in the lobby of the theater. Lillie's Saloon is open for Happy Hour one hour before showtime, and provides a gathering place for the audience before the show. This is also where the cast, crew and audience can mingle after the show.
After 23 years as Artistic and Executive Directors of Miners Alley Playhouse, Rick and Paige decided to move on to new adventures. After much thought about who should continue their vision, they decided to ask Len Matheo, Lisa DeCaro, Brenda Worley Billings, and Jim Billings to take the reigns of the company. Beginning in 2013, Len and Brenda became co-Artistic Directors and co-Executive Directors of the theater. Jonathan Scott-Mckean, a long time designer for the space, has recently taken on the role of Managing Director. They are all excited to build upon the wonderful foundation created by Rick & Paige, and take Miners Alley proudly into its next phase.
In 2014, the new team launched their first season. With the addition of two musicals, comedy/improv nights, live music, and a children's theater program, they hope to continue to promote the vision of quality and professionalism always present at Miners Alley, while reaching out to both existing and new audiences.
