Monocacy Elementary provides a well-rounded, comprehensive education for all students. We believe that each child is unique and important. Our school is a dynamic environment in which all students, staff, parents and the community work and learn together to promote success. We value education and believe that learning is a lifelong endeavor. The School Improvement Team, which consists of staff, parents and community members, guides the academic needs of the school.

Staff members hold high expectations for student learning and behavior. In offering a challenging and motivating instructional program that provides equity and access, they exemplify professionalism and serve as positive role models. Our active Parent Teacher Association and volunteers assist in many ways to assure a high degree of student success.

In partnership with the University of Maryland, we practice concept-oriented reading instruction, integrating the disciplines of language arts and science. Each quarter we celebrate student achievement. We are proud of our fully accredited pre-kindergarten program and of our status as a regional site for English As a Second Language (ESL) students.

We have a very active Gator Chorus and a Safety Patrol Program, and are particularly proud of after-school activities such as homework clubs, Math Circus, Family Reading Night, Muffins for Moms and Doughnuts for Dads events. Our fulltime community liasion helps to bridge the gap between school and home. Parents can borrow from our Activity-Book-Toy (ABT) lending library to assist them as active participants in their child’s learning.

Monocacy Elementary School is a happy and productive place to be. Our mascot is the gator, and we proudly wear our school colors of blue and white.
