History
The Summerfest concept was first discussed in 1979. From the Methodist Church, a group of people wanted to start an Independence Day Celebration focusing on family and community. The first Summerfest was held at the Methodist Church, with food, games and other fun events.
Starting in 1980, Summerfest moved out onto Main Street with the overwhelming interest of many non-profit organizations. This was the year Summerfest incorporated and became a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit entity, also becoming a venue for local non-profit groups to raise much needed funds for their activities.
With the addition of a parade, along with booths, bands and various rides/activities the event has evolved into an area attraction drawing roughly ten to thirteen thousand people.
Maintaining the roots of the first Summerfest, families and friends gather for the event, keeping all of us grounded in what is truly important, our families, friends and our community.
