The History of Mound Evangelical Free Church:
In the early 1940’s gasoline & tire rationing caused a significant reduction in the driving habits of most Americans. As a result, three women from the Island Park area prevailed upon Rev. Lestor Pipkin of Calvary Memorial Church in Navarre to conduct Sunday school meetings in one of their homes. As attendance grew they organized as a church in 1944 and began to meet at Island Park Village Hall. The very first service held in a building of their own was Easter Sunday 1948. In July of 1962 the church became affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. The church building was severely damaged by a tornado in May of 1965. It was at that time they purchased the current building on Commerce Blvd in downtown Mound, changing the name to Mound Evangelical Free Church.
