Mount Pleasant Independent School District is located near the center of Titus County in the northern portion of East Texas, 117 miles east of Dallas, 100 miles northwest of Shreveport, Louisiana and 60 miles west of Texarkana, Texas/Arkansas.The county covers 230 square miles and has a population of approximately 23,500. Mount Pleasant is the county seat and has a population of approximately 13,000. Mount Pleasant I.S.D is the largest of the four school districts (two K-8 and two K-12) in Titus County.
Mount Pleasant is a commercial center for farming, poultry farming and processing, livestock, oil, lignite and manufacturing. It is the home of Northeast Texas Community College, a three county college. Texas A&M at Commerce is nearby. Mount Pleasant has ten city parks offering softball, swimming, tennis, fishing, basketball, volleyball and picnic areas. It offers year round recreational opportunities including water sports and bass fishing on three lakes within 20 minutes of the city. In fact, Mount Pleasant has been called the "Bass Fishing Capitol of Texas". Mount Pleasant is also a Texas Main Street city and was named "One of the Best Small Towns in America" in 1993 and 1995.
Mount Pleasant I.S.D is comprised of nine campuses. The MPISD Community Learning Center houses the Even Start and GED programs. The Child Development Center handles the district's Head Start and Pre-K programs. There are four K-4 campuses (Annie Sims Elementary, E.C. Brice Elementary, Vivian Fowler Elementary and Frances Corprew Elementary), one 5-6 campus (P.E. Wallace Middle School), one 7-8 campus (Mount Pleasant Junior High) and Mount Pleasant High School.
The district is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency. The Board of Trustees and its administration are constantly seeking to improve the excellent school system. Teaching focuses on comprehensive college preparatory, vocational and general studies. The curriculum of MPISD is continually evaluated and updated in an effort to meet the needs of all students and the demands of community, regional and national businesses and industries. The district encourages and welcomes involvement from parents , civic organizations, industry and local citizens to provide the best educational opportunities possible for its students.
