A cadre of volunteers supplement the Department's administrative capability.  Volunteers are fully trained to assist the Records staff, Detectives, and Sergeants with special projects.  This allows officers to spend more time on the street protecting the citizens of Newport.

Volunteer duties include:
- Clerical assistance
- Citizen patrol
- Disabled parking enforcement
- Crash scene traffic enforcement
- Disaster assistance
- Special event coverage
