Saturday continues to be the most attended day at the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival. In an effort to maintain safety and accommodate large crowds, we have made some adjustments to entry procedure and crowd management.
There will be NO General Admission available on Saturday. Standby tickets MAY be available after 1pm depending on capacity. Saturday's entrance will be sold via E-Tickets ONLY. We will have two E-Ticket entrances to aid with the flow of the line. Be advised that many of our patrons arrive during peak hours (11am-3pm).
We anticipate that the adjustments we have made will improve crowd flow, however patrons who arrive during peak hours should expect a delay in entrance. Event Staff will be readily available to provide information.
Wine Competitions
Commercial
Newport in February has conducted the longest continuous wine competition in the Northwest. This is an exciting opportunity to taste award-winning wines, meet the winemakers responsible for them and discover why the wine world is coming to Oregon in search of the best.
For the last 28 years of the Festival's thirty-seven year history, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Best-In-Show awards have been handed out to the most consistent achievers in a Commercial Wine Competition marked by one strong field after another. This early-in-the-year look at Northwest wines offers clear evidence of which wineries are on track and who to watch at other festival showcases around the country throughout the year.
Winners that have been selected as festival participants from the Pacific Northwest are eligible to enter this prestigious competition.
168 entries were received in 2013.
104 awards were made: 29 Gold, 35 Silver and 40 Bronze.
Best of Show was from Spangler Vineyards; 2010 Grenache, Southern Oregon.
Judges are selected on the basis of wine knowledge, experience in wine judging, and a general familiarity of the northwest wine region. Entry applications and rules are sent to the wineries approximately thirty days prior to the judging. The results are released to the press, the entrants, the judges and the public after the judging is completed.
Amateur
This wine competition is open to amateur winemakers only and offers an opportunity for these individuals to have their wines independently evaluated by a panel of judges. There will be a limit of 75 entries for the 2014 Amateur Wine Competition. Wines are scored on a 20 point system based on sight, smell, taste and overall quality.
Categories include: Dry Fruit, Sweet Fruit, Dry Berry, Sweet Berry, White Vinifera, White Non-Vinifera, Red Vinifera, Red Non-Vinifera and Specialty, a category which includes all wines not found in other specified divisions.
