North Royalton Middle School began in 1989 as a part of the high school campus, serving grades six, seven, and eight. In 1996, North Royalton Middle School opened and was Ohio’s largest facility utilizing a geothermal heating and air conditioning system, which saves the district 20% - 40% annually. In addition to conserving energy, the building was constructed as a middle school; thus, its design meets the needs of the fifth through eighth grade students that it serves.

North Royalton Middle School is 239,000 square feet and is able to accommodate 1,600 students. Currently, NRMS has approximately 90 teachers that instruct roughly 1,400 students. Upon arriving to NRMS, students, parents, teachers and community members enter through a large atrium surrounded by windows. The building has two academic wings, consisting of two floors. Each floor is designed as a grade-level pod with the science labs in the center. The fine arts department is located in the front of the building and contains separate band and choir rooms. NRMS has two gymnasiums that are used both during and after the school day for academic and co-curricular activities. The purple gym contains a stage and a foldable wall. The foldable wall allows the gym to open into the cafeteria for various performances. The media center contains multiple computer labs and independent computer stations that are utilized by classes and students. The media center also includes a loft where meetings are held and academic teams host student recognition assemblies. NRMS also has a computer lab in each academic wing that classes utilize on a daily basis in addition to many Chromebook carts.
