The present structure of Northampton High School was originally built in 1954 and renovated and enlarged in 1978. During the past three years extensive remodeling has taken place which includes new ceilings, heating and air conditioning, electrical modifications, upgrading the fire alarm system, upgrading the public address system and the installation of floor tiles and carpeting has taken place. These modifications will make the building a healthier and safer environment for all of the students and staff.
The structure houses approximately 670 students in grades 9-12. The campus also includes the Center for Careers and Technology where students receive career and technology education in automotive service technology, business information technology, building trades, computer technology, drafting, food services, nursing, and marketing.
Northampton High School is a Virginia and a United States Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, one of only 161 high schools in the country and one of only three in the Commonwealth of Virginia to receive the honor in 1996. It was one of only three high schools in the nation to win the special award for parent involvement. Over 80% of the graduates of NHS go on to post-secondary education at colleges, universities or trade schools.
