History: During the 1950's, the
late Emeterio Gutierrez Landin and his wife, Maria Gutierrez, migrated to Chicago in search of a better life for themselves and
their growing family. They settled in what is now part of the University of Illinois. They both stuggled and worked hard to maintain their family, which
includes four sons: Antonio, Emeterio, Jr., Daniel and Raul.
In March of 1962, Emeterio
was offered a chance to buy a small taqueria (taco stand) on 18th street, from a friend who was also from their native
land, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Emeterio and Maria took the opportunity and together
along with their four sons established NuevoLeonRestaurant on March 15, 1962. With the help and dedication of their family,
friends, and loyal customers, the Gutierrez family graciously continues to
serve you quality food with home-style service.
