Mission :
The Oakmont Elementary family's mission is to provide a safe, caring atmosphere of learning that challenges each child's potential, develops self-esteem and self-discipline,promotes clear communication, respects cultural diversity and teaches the use of good study skills and habits, thereby fostering successful life-long learners
History :
Oakmont Elementary was established in the New Deal community when Oakland and Fairmont consolidated in March of 1953. The school served as a K-8 institution from 1953- 1973. Today we serve our community as a K-5 school. In 1996 an addition was constructed to increase the capacity of our school. The addition created a library and three new classrooms along with handicap accessible restroom facilities. Our enrollment is currently 115 students. The staff is composed of 16 certified faculty members and 12 support staff employees.
About Us:
Oakmont Elementary is a quaint, little elementary school nestled in the heart of the New Deal community of Cottontown, TN. Because of our relatively low enrollment, we are blessed to be able to give our students the individualized instruction they so desperately need. We are a Title I school which allows our students access to extraordinary programs and the latest technology.
We have recently been recognized as Reward School by the Tennessee Department of Education for the progress we made last year. Reward schools represent the 10 percent of all Tennessee schools that are in the top 5 percent for performance as measured by a one-year success rate and the top 5 percent of highest progress schools. Oakmont Elemenrary scored a 5 — the highest score on a 1-5 scale — on its school-wide composite, which is made up of reading, language arts, math, social studies and science. We are so very proud of our students and teachers for this amazing accomplishment, and we look forward to forward to maintaining this high level of achievement as we seek to provide the best learning environment we can for our students.
