The Ohlone College Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology opened for classes on January 28, 2008. The eco-friendly campus is the first "green" community college campus in the nation.
The campus incorporates energy efficient features such as photovoltaic solar panels, geothermal heating and colling, and high-efficiency lighting. The interior areas include insulation made from recycled blue jeans, carpets made from recycled material, and furniture that is made from at least 65% recycled materials.
The landscape consists of native Bay Area low water consumption plants and grasses.
