Community Church Purpose Statement:
Community Church exists to glorify God and, in His strength, equip and empower the body of Christ to serve others in love and go make disciples.
About Us
Steve and Lynne Johnson moved to Oshkosh to start Community Church in July of 1985. Steve's brother, Paul, had started Community Church in Fond du Lac and together their dream was to see a series of contemporary, outreach-oriented churches started throughout Wisconsin. The church began a Bible study in their home and in September of 1985, the first worship service was held at the YMCA.
The church grew to about 150 people, while meeting at the YMCA. On April 1, 1990, the church moved to a 5 ½ acre site at 3870 Jackson Drive. The building was doubled in size in 1996. On October 26, 1999, the church voted to begin construction on a new facility on the current nineteen acre site on Ryf Road. We held our first service at our new site on November 12, 2000.
Community Church helped to launch a church planting movement that has seen hundreds of churches in Wisconsin and across the United States. This movement is now extending to different parts of the world under the name Vision USA, founded by Pastor Steve Johnson.
