Parkwood was founded as an unincorporated private association in 1966. When a change to Virginia law permitted church corporations, Parkwood filed for incorporation. Next, the Church Council appointed a working group to draft a new Constitution and Bylaws to replace our 1985 Constitution and 1989 Bylaws. Over the next year, the Bylaws Drafting Group held open church meetings, circulated drafts, and received congregational feedback. At the July 17, 2005, quarterly business meeting, the church accepted the Constitution and Bylaws. Finally, on January 29, 2006, the church held a corporation "organizational meeting" at which we adopted the Constitution and Bylaws and moved into operating fully as a corporation
