History:
Perry Elementary serves a population of approximately 320 students in grades K-5. The average student/teacher ratio is 22:1. In addition to the core curriculum, classes are provided in music, art, library, world language, and physical education by certified teachers. Special education teachers provide resource, speech, emotional support, and life skills to meet student's special needs. Additional support in reading/language arts is provided by two Title 1 teachers. Remedial programs, as well as guidance support, are also offered during the school day. We now offer a full-day program for our kindergarten students. Students are taught appropriate social skills and build an academic foundation that will foster future learning in the Hamburg Area School District. The faculty and staff of Perry Elementary School are dedicated to working with pupils and parents to achieve the potential of each child. We strive to provide an educational experience that will encourage a positive attitude toward school, learning, and self. Our program is designed to provide a firm foundation of the basic skills in an environment that is conducive to student learning.
We are particularly proud of the growing emphasis on updating the technology and resources that we are providing for student use. Computers are used as a supplemental part of the instructional program, and we have implemented Internet access for faculty and students, alike, during the 2004-05 school year. A healthy relationship between community and school is a vital part of a successful educational program. The community and school work together to strengthen and complement each other. Our community and parent involvement programs include an active and supportive PTO, a parent volunteer program, and a "partners in education" program known as the Hamburg Area Education Foundation. The instructional staff is dedicated and committed to quality teaching. They are experienced and talented teachers with a large percentage of them holding graduate degrees. These professionals are assisted in their pursuit of excellence by a competent and creative support staff. Together with parent support and a caring community, our staff can truly provide our Perry students with a "great place to live and learn."
