Pharr Elementary School opened in the fall of 1990. The School in named for Mrs. Lorena Pharr, a retired Gwinnett County School teacher. Mrs. Pharr taught for twenty-seven years at Britt Elementary School in Snellville. In addition to teaching at Britt for many years,Mrs. Pharr was a volunteer and active member of her church. Until ill health confined her to a nursing home, Mrs. Pharr frequently came in to Pharr Elementary and read to the children. Mrs. Pharr passed away on May 24, 2001.  A mural of Mrs. Pharr  (by Carol Reddish) was painted in the atrium of the school in her honor.
