The Village of Pinckney Police Department protects the rights and property of all persons within its jurisdiction to be free from criminal attack, to be secure in their possessions, and to live in peace. The department serves the people of the Village by performing the law enforcement function in a professional and courteous manner, and it is to these people that the Pinckney Police Department is ultimately responsible.
The Pinckney Police Department has a long and rich history of service to the Village of Pinckney and the community. This service has been retained because of our long-standing flexibility, maturity and proclivity to a service orientation. We are, after all, the provider of the most fundamental services granted to Americans under the Constitution, for without the police, there could be no real pursuit of life, liberty or happiness.
Service reflects an alliance with the citizens of our community. We see them as partners as well as our clients and customers. We place our greatest value on human life and human dignity and seek to enhance both. Therefore, our first priorities are to situations that threaten life. We are committed to using force only when necessary but with swiftness, and determination in the protection of life. As a matter of course, all persons shall be treated with courtesy and respect with demonstrated compassion and caring whenever possible.
Members of the Pinckney Police Department realize the responsibility of the public trust and that its maintenance is essential if any partnership is to be realized. We are dedicated and accountable to each other as well as to our citizens who are the very sources of our authority. Hence we endeavor to maintain open and honest lines of communication among ourselves and with the community. We understand the importance of community values, expectations and concerns and shall be responsive to all. We will also acknowledge our mistakes and be open to constructive criticism. Additionally, we will always treat public equipment and property with respect and care.
We appreciate questions and concerns about our organization. We thoroughly investigate complaints against our employees or procedures and make appropriate corrections and take proper action when we are wrong. When accusations are misleading or false however, we will vigorously defend our employees and procedures regardless of political or popular pressure. We pride ourselves on being open and subject to review on how we conduct our business.
