Pitts Baptist Church
We have been created by God for the primary purpose of fellowshipping with Him. We believe that the Lord desires to bless us and allows us the opportunity to personally know Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. We are able to fellowship with God through prayer, Bible study, personal and corporate worship, and ministry. The primary purpose of the church is to worship the Lord and serve Him by ministering to others in His name. We strongly believe that the primary purpose of Christ is to bring salvation to everyone who would trust Him as Savior and Lord. Therefore, a central focus of our church is to share the way of salvation with others. We desire to help other believers grow in their Christian faith. This is why we teach the Bible, God's Word. We believe the Bible provides the instruction needed for growing spiritually and maintaining a close fellowship with the Lord. The church, in attempting to be a missionary church, cooperates with and supports the work of the Cabarrus Baptist Association, the North Carolina Baptist State Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
Rupert Moorehead, a member of First Baptist Church, Concord, often visited in the Pitts community. He saw the need for a church. A prayer meeting was held in Mrs. Aud Dover's home in October, 1939. Some services were held in an old building on some of the open fields on Mrs. Dover's property. A mission was started in January, 1940, sponsored by the First Baptist Church, led by their pastor, Reverend E.S. Summers. In 1941, two acres were purchased from the Caldwell estate for $200.00. Work began on a wooden structure in April, 1942 and was finished in July, 1942, costing the little mission $1,153.94. The mission was organized into a cooperating, missionary Baptist church on August 15, 1943. The first pastor was the Reverend Townly Davis, who served with a salary of $5.00 per week. Since that time our surrounding community has grown and as a result, Pitts Baptist continues to grow. We are now in the process of addressing many of the 'space' issues that go along with that growth.
