Rocky Mountain Rangers is a SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) and NRA affiliated Cowboy Action Shooting Club.
Preserving the history of the Old West and competitive shooting in a safe, friendly atmosphere are components of Cowboy Action Shooting™. SASS, the parent organization, was founded in 1987 and promotes the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting™ worldwide. RMR is Montana's westernmost SASS affiliated Cowboy Action Shooting™ club.
Cowboy Action Shooting™ is an amateur, family friendly shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those of used in the taming of the Old West: single action revolvers, lever action rifles, and either side by side double barreled, pre-1899 pump, or lever action shotguns.
The shooting competition is staged in a unique Old West style.
Cowboy Action Shooters shoot an array of steel targets in a specific, defined order using two pistols, a rifle, and a shotgun. Each shooter uses guns typical of the Old West, dresses in period clothing, and is known by a unique alias. Scoring is based on accuracy and speed.
