Our elementary
curricular programs are one of the finest in the area. We are very
fortunate that we have been able to adopt programs in the areas of Math, Reading, and Science
within the last couple of years. These new programs, which coincide with the
state assessments, provide teachers with the essential resources they need in
order to successfully instruct students in the era of high stakes testing. Our Reading program, "Reading Street,"
from Pearson/Scott Foresman is the first program tailored specifically to the
requirements of Reading First, a nationwide mandate to enable all
students to become successful early readers as created by the No Child Left
Behind in 2002. The Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley Math program focuses on
test preparation for the PSSA, versatile manipulative kits, diagnosis &
intervention systems, problem solving, and technology. The final major
overhaul was in the area of Science. The Scott Foresman Science program
is closely aligned with Governor Rendell's "Science: It's
Elementary" initiative. Students can now act like scientists in
the classroom with hands-on lab activities and inquiry based instruction.
Aside from the
curriculum, we will strive to maintain effective communication throughout the
year. Information will be periodically updated on the Ross Elementary web
page and a school newsletter will be distributed on a monthly basis.
Teachers maintain individual classroom web pages with a wide variety of
activities and events for you to view. Classroom web pages also provide
teacher email addresses and voice mail extensions incase you have a question or
concern throughout the year. Parents are also encouraged to contact the
Guidance Counselors or Principal when a more serious need exists.Last, but not
least, I would encourage your involvement in our PTO. Our PTO is actively
involved in numerous activities, and they provide financial support for
assemblies and special activities throughout the year. With your
participation, we can continue to build on a healthy partnership and continue
to flourish as a school and a community.
