Club History
Fairfield Rotary Club had a long standing history of serving the Fairfield community and people throughout the world. It was formed in 1971, holding its Charter Meeting on December 26, 1971, with a membership of 25 individuals. Today, the Fairfield Rotary Club averages 65 to75 men and women dedicated to service to Fairfield citizens and the community.
Rotarians can and do volunteer their time as a group to assist in many ways, but most often you will find many Rotarians directly involved in many different community activities and events, often in leadership roles. If there is a major event going on in Fairfield, like the 4th of July celebration, you'll find Rotarians leading the way.
Locally, the club has returned 100 percent of the money raised during events, like the club's annual auction, to help different community groups. These include, but are not limited to: (1) seven scholarships presented annually to Fairfield High School seniors, (2) paid attendance to a leadership seminar for Fairfield High School students, and (3) donations to the art and orchestra programs at Fairfield High School.
The club has also sponsored youth sports activities like soccer, baseball, & basketball and supported special recreation events for handicapped youth & adults. The Fairfield Rotary Club also supports seniors, recently providing a TV for the senior citizen's center and donating money to Senior Citizen ARK.
Another major program is the Christmas Project for Needy Families. About 100 children are given gifts for Christmas and food baskets are provided to their families.
In addition, Rotary donates funds to other recognized groups in the Fairfield community, including the YMCA, the Boy Scouts, Camp Enterprise, and Family Services Inc. The club is also funding the new fountain at Village Green.
Recently, the Fairfield Rotary Club has created a high school community service club - Rotary Interact Club - at Fairfield Senior High School. High school students learn the importance of serving their local community and communities around the world.
The Interact Club has a membership of over 100 students annually. They learn the importance of serving and leadership in their local communities by volunteering in tutoring programs, feeding the needy in shelters in Over the Rhine, and helping with the Habitat for Humanity project, among other activities. They have also helped raised funds for international projects.
Internationally, the Fairfield Rotary Club has participated in the International Rotary project of bringing polio vaccinations to children throughout the world. Fairfield Rotary Club teamed up with a Rotary Club in Salem, India to provide funds for polio vaccinations and corrective surgery for youth paralyzed by this disease. A physician member of the Fairfield Rotary Club has visited Salem, India many times to bring medical assistance to children of this community far away from Fairfield.
Another international project involved funding the drilling of water wells in Guatemala, Central America to provide precious water to this community.
