The Russell Missionary Baptist Church was organized on February 16, 1916, in a little school house one mile west of the present site. The church organized with sixteen charter members. The pastor at that time was Rev. J. F. McBride.
In 1919 the school house was moved to the present church location. The county sold the land and the school house to the church and a sixteen foot addition was soon added.
