The Saint Paul United Methodist Church came into being at the home of the Reverend H. J. Hickman near the former Kennedy school located at the north end of Youngwood. Here a group of dedicated Christians laid plans for the first church in Youngwood.

These people were under the leadership of Reverend Hickman, with the lay leadership of Wesley K. Baker.
