Mission:

Sanctuary Forest is a land and water trust whose mission is to conserve the Mattole River watershed and surrounding areas for wildlife habitat and aesthetic, spiritual and intrinsic values, in cooperation with our diverse community.

Flowing wild and free through groves of ancient redwoods and past stunning ridgetop prairies, the Mattole River and its streams, forests and grasslands support a spectacular diversity of unique plant and animal life ranging from native salmon to tailed frogs and spotted owls.

The natural beauty of these forests and rivers serve as an endless source of inspiration. These protected woodlands with their mix of old growth redwoods, Douglas firs, tan oaks and madrones provide a place to refresh our spirits and purify our souls.

Since 1987, Sanctuary Forest has met the challenges involved in protecting and conserving over 10,000 acres of forests and streams. Sanctuary Forest is a community-based land trust, actively working with landowners to protect, conserve, and restore land in the Mattole River watershed. Sanctuary Forest holds conservation easements on private lands and also offers many programs and services to assist landowners and our community in stewarding and protecting our natural resources for future generations.
