History:
The Kiwanis Club of Scarborough was officially organized May 29,1986.
Our biggest fundraiser is the "Kids Fishin’ Derby," which is held at Bayley's Camping Resort on Pine Point Road, Scarborough. Throughout the years, we’ve engaged in a number of fundraisers and service projects.
In 1999 we established an annual "Benefit Gala" to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Over seven years, this event raised over $75,000.
During the spring of 1994, we helped form a Key Club at Scarborough High School. In 1998 we established a Builders Club at Scarborough Middle School. For many years, we have sponsored and participated in the Terrific Kids program in the three K-2 primary schools. In 2006, we established a K-Kids Club at Wentworth Intermediate School.
Each year, the club awards scholarships to graduating Scarborough High School seniors. In 2014 and again in 2015, we were fortunate to be chosen as beneficiaries of the Scarborough Alumni Gold Tournament. This enabled us to increase the number and amounts of scholarships awarded.
The club also prepares and delivers child safety kits for parents of newborns to Maine Medical Center.
Each year, we hold a food drive to benefit the Scarborough Food Pantry. In conjunction with other clubs in the division, we have participated a number of times with Outreach: Kids Care, organizing an assembly line to package meals to donate to local food pantries and food banks.
We currently have about 40 members. We meet for lunch
