Since 1920 The League of Women Voters has stood for freedom: freedom to vote; freedom to understand the issues; to serve and be served, no matter how rich or how poor.
Our mission is to encourage the informed, active participation of citizens in government. Strictly nonpartisan, we do not support candidates. We support or oppose issues and legislation after study.
Our message is simple. Free and open access to information is as important today as it ever was. Educating everyone about the issues of the day, about the political process and how to make informed choices is a job the League takes very seriously
"In the League of Women Voters, we have an anomaly; we are going to be a semi-political body. We want political things; we want legislation; we are going to educate for citizenship. In that body we have got to be non-partisan and all-partisan. Democrats from Alabama and Republicans from New Hampshire must work for the same things." Carrie Chapman Catt at the League's founding, Chicago 1920
