Our History:
Sierra NonProfit Services was initiated in 1998 by a five year research grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to Sonora Area Foundation. With initial funding and planning that followed, Sierra NonProfit Services became a 501(c)3 in 2001, and continued its growth with three year operational grant from The California Endowment.
Additional program grants followed from The Sierra Health Foundation and others, to continue capacity building services mainly for Tuolumne, Calaveras and Alpine Counties. Presently an all volunteer organization, we are an effective agent for change in our counties. To date, Sierra NonProfit Services is the closest such service center for nonprofit resource and development from here to Sacramento and San Francisco.
The mission statement that guides Sierra NonProfit Service is that SNS “serves those who serve others; and that, if you are a nonprofit, a volunteer, or someone who….wants to create positive change on your board, in your community, or for yourself, then we can help.”
Annually, we assist with formation and coaching of 10 or more community benefit projects per year. Our pro-bono administrators and subject specialists volunteer over 5500 hours per year to coordinate and organize inter-active training, and presentations specific to adult and student volunteers, nonprofit leaders and community residents.
