The Slidell Art League, originally named “Lakeside Artist’s League of Slidell”, was formed in 1962 with nine charter members.

The mission of the League is to create and cultivate the appreciation of art amongst artists and the community.

The League is administered by a board of directors who meet monthly.  The board is elected by the members annually and serve one to two year terms.

At the present time, the League holds five major exhibits annually. These shows attract many artists from all along the Gulf Coast.

From its inception through 1979, the League welcomed the courtesy of using display space from many of the Slidell area businesses. From 1980-1986, the League held exhibits in the Municipal Auditorium, and then at the Northshore Square Mall.  Post-Katrina, the League’s home was the Slidell Train Depot. In 2010, due to cuts in arts funding, the League closed the facility, but currently meets at Christ Episcopal Church, 7th & Michigan in Slidell. Art exhibits are also held at the Slidell Memorial Hospital, SMH Cancer Center, Summerfield Retirement Community, and the Cultural Gallery in City Hall.

The Slidell Art League’s biggest goal today is to expand the cultural economy in Slidell, so that artists continue to mature in the skills of art expression and the community continues to grow in its knowledge and appreciation of art.
