History
Solana Vista Elementary School, a Nationally Distinguished School, was
established in 1971. It is located in a residential area of Solana Beach and is one of six elementary schools in the Solana Beach School District.

Throughout its history, Solana Vista and its staff have been recognized at the local, state, and national levels for numerous exemplary programs and achievements. Solana Vista, a K-3 school, has an enrollment of 369 students (2004-2005). The student profile is comprised of 70% Caucasian, 24% Hispanic, .8% Asian and 5.2% Other. As a result of class-size reduction legislation, all classes are currently at or below a twenty to one ratio.
We strive to provide a strong educational program with an emphasis on basic skills provided through a progressive curriculum. We consistently rank at or near the top in the county in standardized testing. The high scores are due in part to parent involvement. Parents and the community support Solana Vista by volunteering, fundraising, and participating in school activities and are actively involved in the decision-making processes.

Students participate in active, hands-on learning activities and are challenged to use higher order thinking skills. Teachers tailor instructional activities to capitalize on children's strengths. Curriculum is designed to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individuals through the use of technology and other strategies.

The school board, district and site administrators are committed to quality
education as indicated in our API scores. Though our district is small (with
only six elementary schools), providing high-quality personnel, materials, facilities, and technology continues to be the highest priority. The District is very responsive to community needs.
