About

South Texas Underground Film is an official Texas non-profit organization for filmmakers and those who enjoy the art of film, run entirely by filmmakers(Directors, Producers, Screenwriters and Editors). Our goal is to teach the art of filmmaking to the community and to exhibit the work of filmmakers with underground and incredibly independent visions, especially those with the DIY spirit.

South Texas Underground Film wishes to provide a public presentation for the underground and independent filmmaker so that they can show and share their work. We are always accepting films of any genre, length and year for screenings, presentations and broadcasts.

South Texas Underground Film puts on events throughout the year such as 24cc: A 24hr Film Challenge, 48cc: A 48hr Film Challenge, 72cc: A 72hr Film Challenge, Russian Winter: A Tribute to Sergei Eisenstein, Film Slams, Music Video Challenges, Sisterhood In Film and Music, STUF LGBT Film Festival, STUF Revolution Film Challenge and the South Texas Underground Film Festival. South Texas Underground Film also has a monthly show called STUF which broadcasts on the local Public Access channel (Ch. 10 on Grande Cable and Ch. 105-3 Time Warner). It is also broadcast on YouTube channel STUFtx.

STUFtx is free for all filmmakers. We accept Shorts, Demo’s, Trailer’s, Behind the Scenes and Reel’s. If it shows any part of the Art of Film, we will show it! South Texas Underground Film has also put on free basic filmmaking workshops for the kids and are in the process of coordinating more for the community.

Mission:

South Texas Underground Film’s sole mission is to engage and inspire the community by screening films without discrimination, creating new films, teaching the art of filmmaking and networking with fellow filmmakers.

History:

After years of discussions, we wanted more for filmmakers than what was available and wanted to show support for those filmmakers who had underground and defiantly independent visions for their work. South Texas Underground Film was founded in July 2010 after other area filmmakers started expressing the same.

December 2010 Horror Film Challenge marked the first STUF film festival, May 2011 Sister In Film and Music marked the first film and music event and in January 2011 launched the broadcast of the STUF public access/online show. Also in 2011, we started doing film races(48cc: A 48hr Film Challenge and 24cc: A 24hr Cell Phone Challenge, Film Slams, Music Video Challenges and held our first workshop in the Summer of 2011.
