Together we build an abundant life. We are to bring people to Jesus and membership in His family, develop them to Christ-like maturity and equip them for their ministry in the church and their life mission in the world, in order to magnify God's name.

About Us:

Southwest Chinese Baptist Church (SWCBC) began as a Bible study group organized by a group of Chinese Baptist Church (CBC) members living in the southwest Houston area. SWCBC formally became a mission in January 1981, meeting at Westbury Baptist Church (WBC). The Mission was initially sponsored by both CBC and WBC. Rev. John Fung served as the first pastor of the Mission. In the beginning, worship services were in Cantonese only, English translation was added in the spring of 1982. In late 1982, Rev. Fung resigned. In January 1983, CBC terminated its sponsorship of the Mission and WBC became the sole mother church of the Mission. Rev. Daniel Cheung became the interim pastor of the Mission from July 1983 to November 1984. Then the Mission invited Rev. Peter Leong to become the pastor.

Under the guidance of the Lord the Mission became an independent church on April 22, 1990, with 131 charter members. In April 1992, the church began holding two separated but concurrent worship services, the English Worship Service and the Cantonese Worship Service. In January 1993 the Church purchased an 11.7 acre track of land in the city of Stafford and Rev. Chris Forbes became the English Speaking Minister.The Church Building Planning Department of the Baptist General Convention of Texas developed a three-phase master plan for the church, which includes a 350 seating capacity sanctuary and nearly 20 rooms for multi-purposes usage. The construction of Phase 1 was completed on August 23, 1996 and Phase 1A which is a fellowship hall annexed to the main building was completed in March 1999. Soon after, by the grace of God the Family Life Center (Phase 2A) was established right next to the main building on September 7, 2004.     

We firmly believe that God is leading the Southwest Chinese Baptist Church toward a great future and are looking forward to fulfilling our vision and accomplishing our goals in the coming years. With the blessing and guidance of our Lord, we are ready and are will positioned to spread the Gospel throughout the southwest area, all of Houston and even to the end of the earth.
