HISTORY OF SOUTHWEST HARVEST CHURCH
Southwest Harvest Church (SWHC) was founded in Duncanville, Texas in 1987 by Pastor “Sonny” and Susan Conatser. The church was planted with the support of Church on the Rock in Rockwall, Texas.
Pastor “Sonny” held the first interest meeting in December of 1987 at the Holiday Inn Ballroom on Camp Wisdom Road. A few radio announcements and newspaper ads brought more than 400 people to attend the first interest meeting that launched.
Church on the Rock South, Christian music artist, Tim Sheppard led the worship in those early meetings. Pastor “Sonny” shared his vision to establish a church in the area. Anyone interested in joining was invited to attend the regular Thursday night meetings at the hotel.
During the following weeks and months the meetings continued to grow and excitement built in the hearts of those who attended. The newly founded congregation eventually bought the old Duncanville Church of Christ building, our current location, and began holding meetings on Sunday mornings. In 1995, Pastor “Sonny” lead the congregation in changing the name of the church to Southwest Harvest Church as a significant transition took place in COTRI. Today, SWHC remains a core member of Church on the Rock International.
Teachings on prayer have been a hallmark of Pastor Sonny’s vision for the past 20 years. Evangelical missions and community outreaches are a fundamental part of the SWHC philosophy
Southwest Harvest Church is an Evangelical Charismatic Congregation, which means we believe in the fundamental truths that many Evangelical churches hold to be the truth, but at the same time we believe that there is an endorsement of power, from the Holy Spirit, necessary to carry on all that God has called us to do.
