About Us:
According to the Diocese of Rockville Center Website, St. Hedwigs was established in 1902 "to serve the sacramental, catechetical and social needs of the Polish population in this area of Nassau County. Rev. Adolph L. Swierzynski, the founding pastor, celebrated the first Mass there on September 28, 1902. The Felician Sisters conduct the parochial school. To serve parish needs, a new hall was constructed in 1967."
In 1991 the school was closed and later converted to St. Hedwig's Gardens. The convent was also torn down. The good news is that for the last couple of years, Msgr Wawerski has been doing a great job revitalizing the parish. He has done a fantastic job repairing and updating the parish buildings even while the faced with many unexpected problems. Latest is the resurfacing of the Parish Hall parking lot.
