In a stable was born the family of St. Maurice. The conversion of the original stable into a Christian stable began with the digging of the first sod by Fr. David Russell in 1970. Previously the property was known as Smith's Stables, and only the sounds of horses' hoof beats disturbed the country two lane road known as Stirling Road. Smith's Stables was renamed St. Maurice by the Archdiocese of Miami, and the first parishioners assembled. The birth of the new stable started with hard labor, which led to the initial bonding of the family of St. Maurice.
