St. Simons Island Public Library

530 Beachview Dr Ste A

The St. Simons Island Library was founded in March 1937, by Mrs. Abbie Fuller Graham. At the time, books were circulated from a private residence. Later, with the support of the Glynn County Commission and the sponsorship of the Cassina Garden Club, the library moved to two small rooms in the County Casino. In 1950 the library moved to its present location, the former bowling alley.  On Tuesday, October 1, 2002, the Library was designated as a National Literary Landmark in honor of Eugenia Price. The St. Simons Library was the site where Ms. Price did early research on her first novel, The Beloved Invader in 1961, leading to her St. Simons trilogy.  In July of 2005 the library moved to temporary quarters while the County Casino building was updated and remodeled. The library reopened in its renovated space in November 2006.  In July of 2007, the St Simons Island Public Library Board completed negotiations with the Three Rivers Regional Library System and the St. Simons Island Public Library became a member of PINES.
