The Tabernacle Baptist Church came into existence in 1926. The congregation met in Queens Hall on Bradley Street for approximately one year. The time finally arrived after many prayers and much hard work, to purchase a building and property at 1109 North York Street.
On the third Sunday in July 1926, approximately one hundred members marched from Queens Hall to their new church on North York Street.
The membership continued to grow and soon the church on York Street was too small. The pastor, administrators, and membership began praying for a new church. Plans were drawn for a new building, but the Lord had already designated the next church, which would bear the name Tabernacle.
The congregation of Victory Baptist Church held their final services at this 19th Street location on Sunday, May 28,1978.
Rev. James Revis, pastor of the Victory Baptist Church had recently announced the sale of the church, which would become the Tabernacle Baptist Church on June 1, 1978.
In June 1978, the members of Tabernacle moved in a motorcade from the North York Street location to our present one.
