Texas Czech Genealogical Society

520 North Main
512-218-1559

Texas Czech Genealogical Society was organized fifteen years ago, in 2001.

Our motto is: A genealogical society founded by Czech genealogists, dedicated to helping you with your Czech genealogy.

The President of TCGS is Charleen Hurta, a genealogist who saw the need for an organization to document all things Czech, to help other Czechs discover their roots, and to pass this information to the succeeding generations.  She, along with Patrick Janis, Wayne and Sallie Wendt, Rev. John Gantt, Sylvia Laznovsky, and Pat Fowler came together and organized the Texas Czech Genealogical Society.

We place a large emphasis on honoring Czech Veterans and this is evidenced by the Texas Czech Veterans' Wall of Honor, on display in our facility, located in the SPJST Home Office Building, 520 North Main, Temple, Texas.  The Czech Veterans' Museum is a part of this display.  We also import  various items from the Czech Republic and offer them for sale in our Gift Shop, located there as well. Also on site is a large library where Czechs can come to search for family information.

Our organization has published a number of Czech genealogy books, and have won awards for some of these publications at the Texas State Genealogy Convention in years past. A monthly electronic newsletter informs our members of forthcoming events and items of interest in the near term.  The quarterly publication contains many articles of interest to Czech people in Texas and it too has received awards as the premier Czech publication in the United States.

Three or four times a year we host seminars and events to further our attendees' knowledge about their Czech Ancestry as we about Czech traditions and heritage.  Caldwell is a perfect place for these events; many Czech people live in and near Caldwell, and Burleson County is the center of Texas where many of the immigrants settled after coming to American, beginning in the 1850s.

Our next meeting is on January 30, 2016, at the Caldwell Civic/Visitors' Center, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:00 p.m. Details of this event may be seen at our website: www.txczgs.org .

The officers and chairmen of Texa Czech Genealogical Society invites all Czechs in the area to our events in Caldwell and to contact us if they have questions or comments about our organization.
