The First Baptist Church of Schererville first met in December of 1953, as a mission in the old fire station in Schererville. In the spring of 1954, the mission was moved to an old store building on the corner of Cline and Highway 330.
Sometime in April, the mission was organized as a church, and on December 5, 1954 called its first pastor. The following year the church bought property from Mr. Gorly to build the first building. The church applied for a charter from the State of Indiana on the 27th day of June, 1965, and in October of 1965 was chartered as a Baptist Church.
The first building burned and the congregation met in the basement of the home of Dalton Williams until the building was restored. Later the new auditorium was completed and sometime later the parsonage and the fellowship hall were built.
